Hibiscus pollenHere in the wonderful south, we have something known as pollen. Ii is the cause of many allergies and a lot of dirty, yellow looking vehicles.

I am one of the fortunate ones who don’t suffer from allergies, but no so fortunate when it comes to my vehicles. You see, pollen doesn’t care where it lands, and so, no car, truck, van, bike, or SUV is safe from the pollen.

Oh, pollen is great and it makes things bloom and green and lush. But the down side is having to clean everything on the outside because of this little yellow substance.

I am the kind of person that hates to clean my cars. But I don’t like the automatic washes either. I just don’t think they get it clean like it should.

So I had the joy today of going and cleaning my cars. And it never fells, I always spend about $10 getting it cleaned.

But today while I was cleaning my van, I had the great and wonderful task of cleaning not only pollen, but nice big bugs out of the Ford grill. YUCK!!

The heavy duty sprayer didn’t get it,so I had to take a brush to really get in there and get the job done right. But I am happy to report, the grill is now bug free. Woo-hoo!viragon-ugralo

I woke up this morning to get ready to run out and do some errands. I got the baby ready, bundled up, and headed out to the truck. I got her all buckled in and came around to get in. Following my normal ritual, I put the key in to start the truck and NOTHING!!! It wouldn’t start.

Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.  I called over to my neighbors for a jump, thinking it was just the battery that was dead. He was unable to help me with my truck but told me to come use his car instead. Awesome!!! (yes, there are still good neighbors out there)

The baby and I walked over to get his car. I got her all buckled in and we left. I didn’t get back home until late so he told me to just keep the car.

The next morning he came over and we tried to jump it off. No luck. We then put it on the trickle charger to let the battery build up a charge. We waited 4 hours and tried again. Still no luck. I took the battery out and took it to Auto Zone. They tested the battery and said the battery was good. I was thinking, ‘Oh great, now it is going to cost me even more money to get it fixed’, thinking it was the starter or alternator. I bought a battery terminal bolt and some corrosion grease due to the fact that one of my bolts seemed loose. By the time I got home, it was dark and raining. So I had to wait.

I woke up to rain the next morning. More waiting. It finally stopped and I went out to install the battery and new bolt praying that that would fix my problem. I put it all back together, got behind the wheel, put the key in, silently saying a prayer for the truck to start.

I turned the key, and wahla, it started. Talk about your miracles. I went from thinking it was a battery that would have cost about $100, to a starter or alternator that would have run over $300 to fix.

The total cost of my repair… $4.43.  It was a loose connection and a stripped out battery bolt causing the problem. Whew!
