Tax Money

This is the season for taxes. To some, this is a great time of year, and to others, it is a much dreaded time.

Now for the ones that this is a great time, what and how do you decide on what to spend your refund on? There are so many things that try to get our attention as far as what to buy.

One of the most common that I have seen lately is car lots. The companies tell you to bring in your W-2 and your refund is your down payment. But I have to ask, is it a smart thing to put yourself in further debt unnecessarily? Now if you need a vehicle, then by all means, go for it, but if it is more of a want than a need, then you may want to weigh your options a little more closely.

A few of the others that seem to be very popular are LCD TVs, iPods, laptops, and gaming systems, just to name a few.

I want to present a question however. What about, instead of spending the money, you save the money? Find an account that you can put the money in that will grow for you.

If you are the type of person that when you get a little extra money, it ‘burns a hole’ in your pocket, then maybe you need to rethink how you spend your money. Take this opportunity with you taxes to get a good head start with saving money. Then you would have a comfortable place to carry on from for the rest of the year.

We have had the worst winter in years! And I have felt it more than ever this year.

Here at my house, we do not have central heating and air. That is a great luxury, one that I will never take for granted again.

To heat my house, I use a fireplace and portable electric heaters. And very recently, I discovered an amazing thing that I could not live without now. What is it, you may ask?

Electric blankets and heated mattress pads. These are two of the most wonderful things ever!!!

My heating bill has dropped about $75 a month because of these two things. I am able to only run one heater at night instead o 2 or 3 of them.

The blanket and the mattress pad keep us warm and toasty enough that we don’t need a lot of extra heat. They worked so great for me, that I decided to get one for each of the kids too. So now, we are all loving nights.

Even when we do get central heating and air, I will continue to use electric blankets and heated mattress pads. It saves a lot of money on your heating costs and it is a wonderful thing to climb into a bed that is all warm and toasty, just waiting for you to slip into dream land.

HOUSEWORK Pictures, Images and Photos I have those four words going round and round in my mind. You are probably wondering what in the world I am talking about.

I am speaking of consignment sales and getting prepared for them. I am currently working on getting things ready for the 3rd consignment sale that I will be participating in.

I have been going through closets, using my box cutter to cut open boxes that have been packed up for years, washing and drying clothes, and ironing clothes. One of my biggest issues that I have had is finding enough hangars for all of these clothes. Once they are all washed, dried, ironed, and hung, then they get tagged.

Consignment sales are so awesome and I am really getting into them. It may seem like a lot of work, but to be honest with you, it is a lot less work than holding a yard sale yourself.

But I must say that even though it is quite a bit of work, I am loving it. Being able to sell my stuff and make better prices and money than a yard sale. Well, you can’t get mush better than that!

Flemington sale Fall 08 a Pictures, Images and PhotosI have been working on getting things ready for the consignment sale that I am participating in this weekend with Weecycled Wear.

Consignment sales are so awesome. They allow parents, grandparents, and others to purchase like new items at a fraction of the cost.

Children grow out of their clothes so quickly and it is a same to see these nice clothes get put away and forgotten for extended periods of time, or sold in a yard sale. At least with consignment sales, it is a win win situation for both the consignor and the consignee. Think about it, what better way to save money and make money than to consign the clothing and toys that your children out grow.

This will be my second consignment sale that I will be involved in. It takes a little bit of work to get your items prepared to be taken in and dropped off for the sale.

I will be taking in several things this time. Toys, baby clothes, pajamas, house hold items, and books. I have some of the best diet pills that I would love to take in but I am not a vendor and you can’t take perishable items to the sale.

A good friend of mine who actually turned me on to the consigning sales told me that she cleared $460 one sale. Now of course, the person in charge of the consignment sale charges a fee. Between 30-40% plus a $5-$10 registration fee. But still, you earn 65-70% on everything that gets sold.

So like I said earlier, it is a win win all the way around. You get to clean out closets and toy boxes and get paid to do so! I recommend that you check out the national Kids Consignment Sale site. Find your state and a town near you and you can get information on a sale that is close to you! Happy consigning!

What are good opportunities in today’s economy?

I was recently in the Great Smokey Mountains on my honeymoon.   We stayed on a mountain in between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.  We had a wonderful time there, the mountains were beautiful and the people were great!   While we were there, we took advantage of the great trolley system they had. One of the stops on the trolley route was a resort called the Westgate. It was very impressive and very expensive looking, so I began thinking about who, in today’s economy could afford vacations at these elaborate resorts such as the Westgate.

I discovered an article in Entrepreneur Magazine entitled, “Lucrative opportunities in a down economy?”  It explained the hottest trends, etc… It said basically that the baby boomers who have driven the market for the last 50 yrs or so are still driving it.  For example, in the 50’s baby products like diapers and toys were selling like crazy. In 60’s and 70’s schools were built to educate them. In the 80’s and 90’s construction/real estate boomed in efforts to house them. Now the “Boomers” are aging and the number one concern is their health. The article also said that home- based businesses which are network or relational marketing are doing very well.

So I started doing some research on good companies that are home-based, network marketing and in the health and wellness industry with  a great compensation plan and a great support/management team. That’s when I found Monavie! Monavie is a great product, it is a super-nutritional fruit juice blend which has a patent process in which the acai berry is the main ingredient.   Although there are several acai beverages on the market, only Monavie has a patent process where all the nutrients are saved in the process from harvest to delivery. Most other processes lose 30% to 70% of the antioxidants from the acai in their process.

Not only have I heard personal testimonies of how drinking Monavie has changed peoples lives  through improved health but I’ve heard how its setting many people financially free so they can have both the time to be with their families as much as they need and the money to afford what they never could have before, like vacations and staying at luxurious resorts like the Westgate!

So, if your looking for a good opportunity in today’s economy, they are out there, I’ve found one,  I hope you do too!

Whatever you do I wish you good fortune and success both with finances and health!
