In so many occasions, in so many different places, we hear about identity theft and fraud. it is something that sits there in the back of your mind, but until it hits you personally or someone you know, that is when it becomes real.
I have a very dear friend of mine who is currently experiencing the real pain of identity theft and fraud. And it all started when she filed her taxes.
Last summer, my friend ran into Ingles grocery store. She was picking up some stuff for her mother-in-law. While she was in there, someone broke into her car and stole her wallet. Now you are probably thinking, well, she shouldn’t have left it in there, right? She hid her purse, locked her car, and the perpetrating still found it and got it all within the span of about 15 minutes. Her only mistake was that she left her window cracked slightly.
Now, when she went to file her taxes, she submitted everything. They were rejected. Said that she had one of the SS# wrong on her return. So she double and tripled check then sent it again. Rejected! So she called the IRS. They told her that her husband’s SS# was used on another return. She informed them that she could prove he was who he said he was. They told her, no need at this point, just go ahead and send in the paper return.
So she did that and she waited. They let her know that she would get her return by March 11. Not too bad, at least it wasn’t longer, right? WRONG!!! When she checked the status of her taxes there was another error message on her return. So, once again, she called IRS.
This time they told her that it was HER number that was incorrect. She verified everything over the phone. They told her that whoever used her number has already gotten ‘their’ return and it would be a few months before she would see hers. I know we are all human and we make mistakes, but why didn’t they tell her that to begin with, why say it was her hubby’s number? There was all kinds of ‘red tape’ to go through. They told her what forms to fill out so her hubby could get his portion of the tax return while they waited on hers.
She has had to jump through all kinds of hoops to be able to prove she is who she is. She has had to file a police report, talk to the Federal Trade Commissioner, talk to the IRS again, and the Social Security Administration.
Now the good news is, the person that stole her identity has opened up stuff in her name, ran up $50,000 in debt, and filed taxes using this information. You may be thinking, that ISN’T good news. But you see, it is due to the fact that they left a paper trail. We are hoping that by tomorrow, the cops will know who did this and arrest them. Then they will face federal charges as well.
What gets me in all of this, is this, people can steal your identity, screw up your credit, give you a major headache due to dealing with it, and WE are the ones that suffer. The ones who identity has been compromised. We are the ones that have to run all over creation to get things done. Fill out this form, pick up this info, file this paper, etc. But I guess that is what is to be expected in such a computerized and paperless world that we DO live in. It just really sucks that people stoop to such levels and don’t always realize the damage and destruction that they cause in other lives. Or even if they do realize it, they don’t care. Sad!

I am starting a prayer chain for my mom. Her name is Shirley and she has been recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. To get the whole story, go to “You Have Cancer” on my website.
The way that this works is this, I am going to start a list of people’s names who are praying for my mom and putting them on various prayer lists. All you need to do, is just send me a comment with your name and website so I can link it up on the list. My very fervent prayer is that I can get at least 100 names on my list praying for my mom.
I know that I serve a God of miracles and I believe anything is possible. God says that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, then we can look at a mountain and say move, and it will move! I have heard countless testimonies of people who were in Stage 4 Cancer that recovered completely. I know that it is possible. I don’t care what the doctor’s say.
Please, would you join me in praying for the healing and complete recovery of my mom. God bless you and thank you for taking the time to pray for my mom! A side note, I am linking everyone on this prayer list more for my benefit of keeping up with all the wonderful folks praying for my mom. I am so deeply grateful and moved that so many wonderful people are willing to pray for someone that they have never met. I thank you with all of my heart for your compassion.

I found this test on Lady Banana’s website. I figured, hey this looks cool. I need to figure out what my typing speed is. I thought that I was pretty good at typing. I have never taken a typing class and I am self taught. My kids are always impressed with how ‘fast’ I type, so I figured, hey, I must be pretty fast, right? WRONG!!! I took the test several times. The first time was a low 36 words a minute. The second was 44 and the third was 46. I was quite disappointed. I thought I was faster than that. I know what slows me down. Having to look up from the keyboard to the screen. I know where the keys are and I type pretty fast when I know what I want to type. But when it comes to looking at the words, then back to the keyboard, that is my downfall. So now, I want to learn to type properly. Just a skill that I personally want to master and get better at. It can only help me! So, what kind of typist are you? Click on the box and find out.
