“I Heard Santa”

My oldest daughter, bless her heart, who is 11, still believes in Santa. This is a funny story, so funny that I had to share it.

We are spending Christmas with my mom this year in NC. I finally got my kids off to bed by 10pm. I was putting all of the ‘Santa’ stuff out and getting it all ready for the next morning. I was finally able to go to bed around 11pm.

My daughter, decided she wanted to sleep in the same room that I slept in, which is perfectly fine. By the time I went to bed, she was still half and half. Half asleep, half awake with the anticipation of Santa coming.

Well, the bed that I slept on has a metal frame on it. At one point, I turned over to get more comfortable and when I did, my ring hit the metal frame two times.

My daughter sat straight up and quietly, but excitedly, exclaimed “I hear Santa. I hear Santa!!!” I told her that she had better hurry and go back to sleep before he realized she was awake and took her toys away. She went right to sleep.

On Christmas morning, she told her Nana (my mom), that she had heard Santa last night bumping into her fireplace set. You know the ones with the broom, shovel, and pick for a fire. Nana, not knowing what I had done with my ring, agreed with her.

I told my mom about what happened later and we both got a real kick out it.

Baby’s First Christmas

What an enjoyable experience! Today was my youngest daughter’s first Christmas. She is 5 months old.

We spent Christmas with my mom in NC. My mom has always been an early riser, so it was no surprise to find her waking us all up at 6am. The kids and I were still asleep. Even the baby.

I get up, wipe the sleep from my eyes and go and start grabbing cameras. Of course, I didn’t want to miss a moment of my kids Christmas, especially my little one. I am trying to set up the video camera, getting the digital camera out, and holding the reins on my two oldest from going and tearing into the Christmas gifts.

I start handing out the gifts. Now the way I do Christmas is this, I let the kids take turns opening gifts, one at a time. That way, opening Christmas presents isn’t done in 30 minutes, plus we are all able to see what each person received. We all enjoy it much better.

My little angel got her turn. She was unsure what to do. I tried showing her how to open the gifts. It was so funny, she was more interested in the paper than the gift itself. We got about halfway through the gifts and my little one fell asleep in the middle of opening her gifts. So pitiful. She was too tired to finish opening her gifts.

Once she got some more sleep, she was able to finish her gifts. Now I doubt very seriously that I will have that problem next year!
